چکیده
INTRODUCTION The laser is an important surgical tool in otolaryngology. It is commonly used for a variety of laryngeal lesions, as well as other aspects of otolaryngology. When used appropriately, advantages of lasers include precision, decreased bleeding, better hemostasis, minimal instrumentation, quicker recovery, and less pain. Disadvantages include surrounding thermal damage, airway fire, the need for trained personnel, and cost of the machine. The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery recommends completion of a basic training program devoted to principles of lasers, physiological effects, safety requirements, and instrumentation—including clinical applications in the specialty field. There should also be a minimum of eight to ten hours of hands-on practical sessions. When training in laser surgery, it is important to recognize that a learning curve exists. This needs to be respected or adverse outcomes may occur. We designed a series of devices to simulate surgical conditions. These help surgeons practice and develop laser surgery techniques in the laboratory and can be translated safely to the clinical setting.

Safe Use of Flammable Endotracheal Tubes During Anesthesia for Laryngeal Laser Surgery-Report of 1024 Cases and a Brief Literature Review
Introduction: One of the major concerns in laryngeal laser surgery is the risk of airway fire. The introduction ofwrapped tubes and metal tubes has reduced the fire hazards. However, these tubes are expensive and do not provide convenient access to the surgical field. There are few laboratory studies addressing the resistance of polyvinylchloride tubes against ignition in the given circum...

Introduction: To present and assess a newly designed autoclavable, reusable tube shield for an endotracheal tube (ETT) during laser laryngeal surgery. Materials and Methods: This study included patients scheduled for endolaryngeal laser surgery. A carbonated stainless-steel hemisphere shield (~1.5×0.6 mm) connected to a silk thread passing through a hole in its middle near upper edge was ...
متن کاملThe Study of Vocal Function in Patients With Early Laryngeal Carcinoma After Transoral Laser Microsurgery
Objective Today transoral laser microsurgery is considered as one of the first options to control early laryngeal cancer, and voice disorder is one of the inevitable complications of this therapeutic component. This study aimed to compare the vocal function in patients with early-stage laryngeal cancer following laser surgery with healthy individuals with normal voice quality using acoustic ana...
متن کاملAssessment of Surgeon Judgment during Resection of Laryngeal Carcinoma
Carbon dioxide (CO2) laser surgery as a conservative tool plays a peculiar role in the management of head and neck cancer. Numerous patients who were candidates for transoral laryngeal microsurgery have forced us to eliminate frozen-section evaluation of surgical margins and use a magnified view of the larynx. The present study evaluated surgeon-judged negative margins with permanent microscopi...

Introduction: The aim of this study was to compare the functional outcomes of swallowing act detected by videofluoroscopy of two different techniques in the treatment of laryngeal carcinoma. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 41 patients undergoing two supraglottic laryngectomy techniques. The research population was assigned into two groups of open and laser supraglottic lary...
